Weekend Brunch in Hanmer Springs: Early Starts and Long Lazy Mornings

Most visitors to Hanmer Springs come for the weekend, so weekend mornings are when the village is busiest. Here’s how to get the most out of yours.

The early start (7:30am)

You’ve got a bike booked, a walk planned or a long drive home. Grab a large flat white and Eggs Your Way on Turkish bread ($19) or the Vietnamese Banh Mi ($25). The banh mi is filling and quick to eat. If you’re heading straight out, try a Spirulina Smoothie ($13): mango, pineapple, banana and coconut water.

The proper brunch (10am–1pm)

This is the busy part of the day, and the time for a slower plate:

• Shakshuka ($29): made for sharing with the Turkish bread
• The King Salmon Bene ($30): house-smoked salmon on a cauliflower rosti
• Beef Cheek Croquettes ($34): North Canterbury beef, slow-cooked, with hollandaise and red wine jus

Add Manuka-smoked bacon, house-smoked salmon or chorizo to most dishes for $7.

The sweet brunch

The Brioche French Toast ($25) comes with matcha mascarpone, mango custard, pistachio ice cream, pistachio crumb, berry compote and Canadian maple syrup. Pair it with an Iced Matcha Latte or a Salted Caramel Vanilla Latte served in a 500ml can.

The late brunch (after 1pm)

Brunch runs until 3pm. At 3pm the pizza lunch and happy hour begin. A late brunch can easily turn into an afternoon at Tease.
